GREENVILLE — Greenville families will have a new place to play when improvements to Warren Park are completed next month.

The Greenville Parks and Recreation Department has purchased a new playscape for the park which will be the highlight of an improvement project that includes a new quarter-mile sidewalk/walking trail and, if funds allow, resurfacing the parking lot.

Warren Park is located at 3100 Webb Avenue and was dedicated in 1976. The new playscape provides 19 activities for children and features three slides, swings and climbing elements with a capacity of 108 users at a time, according to Parks and Recreation Director Colby VanGundy.

“We are pleased to be able to make improvements to Warren Park,” VanGundy said. “This neighborhood pocket park serves a large residential area and the addition of a new playscape should increase usage and improve the leisure activities we offer to the citizens of Greenville. ‘In Parks We Play’ is our department motto, and this addition to Warren Park will certainly create a more enjoyable play area.”

VanGundy said It has been a number of years since there had been a major playground upgrade to any of the City of Greenville’s parks.

“Our goal is to begin replacing one playground with a new playscape each year until all of our parks have new and improved equipment,” he added.

Warren Park is currently closed while improvements are being made, but is expected to reopen by the end of June. Those wanting more information can contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 903-457-2994.
